Business BTEC Level 2 Diploma at South Downs College

Course description

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business will appeal to students who are interested in developing an understanding of how businesses work, develop and make a profit.

Course content

You will learn about all aspects of Business and will study 11 units including:

  • Enterprise in the Business World
  • Finance for Business*
  • Promoting a Brand
  • Sales and personal Selling
  • Recruitment, Selection and Employment
  • Principles of Marketing*
  • Small Business Planning
  • Introducing Project Management
  • Delivering and Improving Customer Service
  • Introducing International Business
  • Working in Business Teams


Entry requirements

You will need to have attained a GCSE grade D profile or equivalent.

A discussion will take place at interview and again at course confirmation to ensure that this course is appropriate in type and level to your needs.

Some C grades would be preferred and a good level of English & Maths.


The majority of your units are assessed and graded internally by lecturers.  

There are two units (which have been * above) which are externally assessed, one is paper-based and one is an online assessment.  An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all students who successfully complete all units.  

Grades awarded are PP to D*D*.  There will be assignment tasks for all internally assessed units.  These could include reports, presentations, role-play and other portfolio assessments.

Future opportunities

The course is designed to provide a broad education as a basis for further training, further and higher education or for moving into employment.

Completion of this course with a Merit grade will allow you to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business or if a Distinction or Distinction * is achieved, progression can be made onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business.
