AS Level: Health and Social Care at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville

Course description

The content of the AS will focus on the needs of clients and the techniques and professional services aimed at meeting those needs.  Students will be assessed in the following units of work:

¨ Promoting quality care - January exam

¨ Communication in care settings                              

¨ Promoting good health

¨ Working in early-years care and education

¨ Health as a lifestyle choice

¨ Caring for older people - June exam

 

Entry requirements

  GCSE grades A*-C

 

Assessment

The AS GCE (Single Award) is made up of 3 mandatory units which are equally weighted. The first unit is an exam unit which is taken in January. The two other units are assessed via coursework which are started from January.

The Advanced GCE (Advanced Award) comprises an additional 3 equally weighted units and is assessed in the same manner as the AS level.
