Health and Social Care BTEC Level 2 First Award at Nottingham Girl's Academy

Course description

If you are interested in working in a health and social care environment, then this course is an excellent starting point.

Course content

At level 2 you will study the following units:

Unit 1: Human lifespan development (exam)

  • This unit explores human growth and development across the lifespan. Learners will investigate factors that affect human growth and development and how they are interrelated.

Unit 2: Health and Social Care values

  • This unit enables learners to explore the core values that underpin Health and Social practice, for example maintaining confidentiality. Learners will also investigate how to empower individuals who use Health and Social care services.

Unit 3: Effective communication in Health and Social Care

  • This will enable learners to gain knowledge and understanding of practical skills they will need to communicate effectively with Health and Social care setting. They will learn about the different forms of communication, understand the barriers to communication and be able to communicate effectively.

Unit 6: The impact of nutrition Health and Well-being

  • Learners will explore the effects of balanced and unbalanced diets on the health and well being of individuals. They will also examine specific nutritional needs of individuals and how this relates to their diet.

Entry requirements

Usually 5 GCSEs at grades D/E or above.


Portfolio work: 3 assignment units. 1 external exam.

Future opportunities

BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care. It is also the first step into working in a health and social care setting.
