Dry Lining Level 2 at Middlesbrough College

Course description

Dry Lining is a technique similar to plastering. Wall partitions are erected using metal stud and plasterboard or wallboard instead of brick of timber frames. Demand for this skill has been increasing dramatically over the past few years. The Level 2 Diploma course is designed to prepare you for work in the Construction Industry. All practical training will take place within the plastering/dry lining workshop where you will learn a range of dry lining hand skills and techniques. As part of your study programme, additional short courses will be included that enhance your skills, knowledge and employability prospects including English and Maths.

Course content

Health, safety and welfare in construction Principles of building construction, information and communication Install suspended ceiling systems Install partitions Install wall lining and encasement systems Fix sheet materials using direct bond method Apply taping and jointing systems to plasterboard Understand specialist systems for dry lining and interiors Optional Apply finishing plaster to plasterboard Apply and finish sprayed plaster to plasterboard

Entry requirements

4 GCSE at grade D or above including Maths, English Language & Science or a Level 1 diploma In one of the following trades: Plastering, Joinery along with Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


Coursework, practical and written examinations and a multiple-choice online exam.

Future opportunities

On completion you can choose to progress onto Level 2 Plastering or Level 2 Joinery to further enhance your knowledge and skills.
