AS Level (2291)
Media Representations and Responses (MS1: 50% of AS, 25% of A Level)
A 2½ hour written exam, with three questions overall.
The first is based on unseen audio-visual or print-based material and assesses analysis skills. (40/100 marks).
Questions 2 and 3 assess knowledge of representation and audience issues (30/100 marks each).

Media Production Processes (MS2: 50% of AS, 25% of A Level)
This coursework has three sections: students will be working with print media to create a pre-production task, designing the front page and contents of a new music magazine, the double-page spread article for the magazine and a report of the processes used.

A2 Level 3291
Media Investigation and Production (MS3: 25% of A Level)
This coursework unit has three components: a written investigation into the media, for which students choose the area of investigation (45 marks), production work of choice (45 marks) and a written evaluation (10 marks).

Media: Text, Industry and Audience (MS4: 25% of A Level)
This 2½ hour exam has three questions (30 marks per question). The topics are Film, Advertising and Television, with one question (from a choice of two) on media texts and two questions (from a choice of four) on two different media industries.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade B in Media Studies and GCSE grade B in English. If the subject has not been studied previously, GCSE grade B in English is required.
