Business Studies at Neston High School

Course description

The BTEC subsidiary diploma in Business is a two year course. This course is equivalent to one GCE A-Level at grade A*-E. You will be required to complete various projects and coursework assignments, and these will often involve you completing action research on the Internet or by interviewing people involved in business. The assignments will consist of practical tasks based on theoretical knowledge learned throughout the course. Learners will develop the following skills:
* the ability of select, organise, interpret and use information from a variety of sources
* the ability to transfer skills from one topic area to another
* the ability to apply business theory to real and simulated business situations Why take BTEC Level 3 Business?
* There is a strong argument that in the future everyone will need a business education.
Whatever you do in your professional life, the chances are that it will involve the need for some business skills. Scientists, engineers, even artists will at some point have to understand at least the basics of business theory and probably a lot more.
* BTEC Level 3
Business provides you with a springboard to a university or foundation degree in an appropriate vocational discipline, and can provide you with access to HND courses. There is a wide variety of university courses available to help you pursue a career in business, with many institutions offering joint degrees in business and other subjects, such as modern foreign languages. Many of the degree courses also provide learners with a year in industry or shorter work-based placements, which give valuable experience.
* BTEC Level 3
Business improves your employability skills and helps with access to a host of business related apprenticeships. What will I study? The course allows you to cover a large number of areas including:
* the business environment
* business resources
* introduction to marketing
* business communication
* developing teams in business
* training in the business workplace
The course is highly regarded by employers and will provide a good progression route to further employment, work-based training or higher education. Many transferrable skills are gained through studying BTEC Business, including personal organisation, meeting deadlines, verbal and written communication, ICT skills, team working and action research.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C with 1 C in key subject.

All students must achieve, or be working towards, GCSE Grade C in English and Maths.
