Course description

What will I study? AS Year OneAt AS, Units 1 and 2 provide an integrated and complementary introduction to the study of communication and culture. Both units deal with the personal level of communication and candi-dates' own experience of cultural products and cultural practices. The interaction between the individual and the broader cultural environment is a key area of investigation.Unit One: Understanding Communication and CultureTopic list: The nature and definitions of culture The meanings and practices of everyday life High culture and popular culture The relationship between culture and value Verbal and non-verbal communication Identity and self-presentation Group communication Reading images and products.Unit Two: The Individual and Contemporary Culture: PortfolioA) 500 word Investigation of your personally chosen aspect of Identity and Culture given 3 topics to select from.B) 1000 word Exploration of another personal angle selected from 3 topics on culture and society.C) A 6-8 minute audio-visual presentation on one aspect of Identity and Culture of your own choice.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements are that students have at least a grade B in any subject they wish to study or a related subject
