Course description

Theatre Studies is designed for students with a keen interest in acting, directing and performing; Students who want a deeper understanding of drama and are interested in studying plays, looking at the work of influential theatre practitioners, analysing live theatre performance and creating performance work of their own. The course is evenly balanced between practical work and academic study. It should be noted that the course requires considerable wider reading from students and progress throughout the course is assessed through a series of regular essays and practical assignments. Students benefit from regular trips to the theatre and workshops or talks from visiting professionals. You could take this course to complement other Advanced Level courses that may be related to the performing arts, which could lead onto Higher Education within the arts or more general Higher Education courses. Further Opportunities With further training, you could go into employment related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre Industries. You may also like to look at joining a theatre group to increase your drama and theatre experience. The course offers a distinct subject content which provides you with the skills, understanding and knowledge that employers from many industries including law degrees and the police, particularly with a personnel management dimension that they are looking for.

5 GCSE or equivalent grades at 4 or above including English and 5 in Drama or similar subject area
