Sport Development - BTEC at King's Oak Academy

Course description

Write your own training programme, organise a sports festival and push your body to the upper limits. BTEC Sport provides you with a broad base of understanding through diverse and varied learning experiences.

Course content

Year 1

Fitness Training and Programming: Develop your knowledge of the components of fitness.
Sports Development: Understand how sports have developed over the years. 
Practical Team Sports: A whole unit dedicated to playing a variety of team sports and pushing your knowledge.

Year 2

Current issues in Sport: Understand how the recent laws and issues in sport are impacting the professional sport performer. 
Organising Sports Events: Work with the local sports clubs and primary schools. 
Sports Legacy and Development: How can you as an individual leave a legacy in sport?


Entry requirements

MUST be completing Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport at BBA Previous completion of GCSE PE or BTEC level 2 is highly advantageous Sports uniform is compulsory to every lecture.


Coursework based with practical sport elements in every module.

Future opportunities


On successful completion of this Level 3 qualification, you could go on to study a range of courses at university, such as, sport sciences, sports coaching, sport & exercise development or sports journalism. A range of work-based training opportunities such as apprenticeships would also be available to you.


Gym Instructor; personal trainer; sports coach or a sports coordinator.
