Course description

In studying philosophy you will look at the really big questions of concern to humanity, from the
meaning and purpose of life to the question of life after death.
You will also study some of the greatest thinkers in the history of the world, such as Plato, Aristotle
and Vardy. In studying philosophy you will be challenging some of the basic assumptions which
influence the way we live our lives.
Ethics deals with complex questions of right and wrong. In studying ethics, you will be looking at
some of the most important questions facing the modern world. For example, you will study the
rights and wrongs of modern warfare as well as the implications of stem cell research and the
environmental threat. A knowledge of ethics is essential for anyone who intends to make a
difference in the world, however they choose to do it.

Entry requirements

B or above in religious studies and English language at GCSE and enthusiasm for deep thinking
