Psychology AS/A2 at Sir Frederic Osborn School
Psychology is the scientific study of human minds and behaviour, which not only allows you to study the theories behind why we behave and think in the ways we do, but also teaches you a great deal about your own thoughts and actions. Psychology is a very broad subject, covering human behaviour in society, our mechanisms for learning, thinking and understanding our world, the development of children, the link between our brains and our bodies and the things that make individuals different from each other such as personality and mental illness. Consequently, Psychology involves a substantial amount of Biology and Maths.
Psychology is a varied subject. Learning methods include carrying out research projects to learn about aspects of our behaviour and thinking, as well as analysing and evaluating what psychologists’ theories tell us about human behaviour. Students will need to express their ideas as short answers, extended essays and research projects.
Psychology combines well with many subjects including particularly the Sciences but also English, History, Business, Law, Sociology and PE and, because it deals with understanding people, is beneficial in almost every career.
