A Level Food Technology at Wootton Upper School and Arts College

Course description

  • During the course you will learn:
  • about the properties and characteristics of food substances
  • to design and develop your own food products
  • about consumer behaviour and how new technologies and materials influence the development of new food products.

Entry requirements

Students will require Grade B GCSE in Food Technology or related subjects e.g. Science, Sociology.

You will study two units each year. At the end of Year 12, when you have successfully completed these units, you will have gained an AS qualification which is worth half an A Level. In Year 13 you will then study the two remaining units, to gain the full A Level.

Future opportunities

There are currently many higher education courses at Post 18 related to the subject. They range from Food and Nutrition, Marketing, Food Science and Technology, Biochemistry and Food, Food Production and Development, Management, Law and Retail etc. Examples of work this could lead to include Food Marketing Management, Product Development, Food Quality Management, Nutritionist, Dietician, Teacher, Hotel and Catering Management and many more.
