Chemistry A Level at La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls' School

Course description

On the course you will cover a range of subjects including: Atomic structure & Bonding; Analytical techniques; Basic organic chemistry; Energetics & Kinetics; and The Periodic Table

Acids & Bases; Aromatic chemistry; Equilibria & Kinetics; Further organic chemistry; Organic synthesis and analysis; and Thermodynamics

On the A-level Chemistry Course, in addition to learning all of the necessary subject content, you can expect to develop analytical skills, develop the ability to critically evaluate scientific methods and data and develop laboratory techniques to an appropriate level of skill and precision.


Students complete all exams at the end of year 13. Coursework is no longer required, however key practical assessments are carried out and do contribute to the overall awarding of your grade

Appropriate for degrees, for example, in: Biochemistry, Microbiology/ Medical Microbiology, Molecular Medicine, Molecular & Cell Biology, Biomedical Imaging, Genetics, Biomedical Science, Food Science, Nursing, Medicine, Molecular Medicine and Rheumatology. Students have represented the school in national Chemistry challenges. A level science students supervise a Science club for lower school students.
