A2B at Sandwell College

Course description

This one-year A2B course is for young people aged 16-18 who require additional support and encouragement to develop their confidence, self-esteem, personal and social skills. We will help you make the transition from entry / foundation level to mainstream further education or work-based training.

Course content

The course offers a wide range of activities and experiences timetabled to suit your own learning needs. You will study for qualifications and certificates in Numeracy, Literacy, Personal & Social Development, Community Volunteering, Employability, Health & Safety in the Workplace, Skills for Working Life, First Aid and Oral Communications.

We will give you support in identifying and developing career / vocational interests and options, including taster sessions and work experience. You will also be involved in group work and team building activities, designed to improve confidence and self-esteem and develop social interaction.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualification requirements. Applicants will be required to attend an interview and undertake an initial assessment of their literacy and numeracy.

Assessment

All students will be given a personal tutor, who will help them to set their own learning targets for the course. These will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan and reviewed at regular intervals during tutorials.

Assessment for any qualifications you take will follow the requirements of the awarding body and may include a combination of coursework/portfolio and external examinations.

Future opportunities

On completion of the A2B course you can progress to a mainstream college course, into work-based training or employment.
