ICT (Applied) A2 GCE A Level at Weatherhead High School
The Edexcel Applied ICT course is a 'must-have' qualification for students. Highly motivating, it develops the knowledge and skills you need to be a competent and informed ICT user and practitioner in the 21st Century. The course complements many other subject combinations of study at Sixth Form level.
The course aims to produce discerning ICT users who can select and use appropriate ICT tools and techniques to help them to:
Carry out investigations
Capture and handle data
Present and communicate information
Over the two years of the course you will produce four projects towards your ICT qualification, worth two thirds of the final grade. Each project will be presented via the design and production of an e-portfolio. Topics covered include:
Life in the Information Age
Digital Economy and Transactional Websites
Managing ICT Projects
You will also take two practical examinations worth a third of the final grade. The topics are:

Using Database Software
You must have achieved 5 GCSEs including a grade C in English Language and Mathematics in order to study Applied ICT at this level.
Unit 7 - Using Database Software (external practical examination)
Unit 8 - Managing ICT Projects (e-portfolio)
Unit 10 - Using Multimedia Software (e-portfolio)
The Applied ICT qualification provides all the skills required for a student to go onto study a further ICT or Computing related course at Degree level. Courses include Computing, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Internet Computing, Computer and Video Games, Computer Games Technology, Information Systems and Multimedia and Web Computing.
The Applied ICT course allows students to work in a supportive environment and gain excellent results. Many of the students have gone on to study ICT related courses at university.
