Mathematics A Level at Verulam School

Course description

The course aims to give the student grounding in both Pure and Applied Mathematics. This will involve learning new techniques and methods and then using these as tools with which to model events in the real world.

Course Content

  • AS Mathematics - 3 modules need to be studied (C1 & C2 and one applied)
  • A Level Mathematics - 6 modules need to be studied (C1, C2, C3, C4 and two applied)

For those students going on to Higher Education, Mathematics forms an essential part of any course in Engineering, Physical Science, Technological Studies ,Economics and computing and accounting courses. It is highly desirable for degree courses such as Chemistry, Medicine, Architecture and Psychology.

Entry requirements

  • Average Point Score (APS) of 43+.  If you gain an A at GCSE you will automatically be allowed to study A Level Maths.
  • APS 0f 43+. If you gain a B at GCSE you will automatically be offered a place on CORE Maths. If you still wish to be considered for place on A Level Maths your UMS Scores will be examined closely. In addition, you may be required to sit an additional test before the course commences in September.
