Course description

COMP1 Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Practical Exercise

60% of AS, 30% of A Level, consists of a 2 hour on-screen examination worth 100 marks. Preliminary Material, the Skeleton Program and, if appropriate, test data for use in the examination will be provided by the exam board

COMP 2 Computer Components, The Stored Program Concept and The Internet

40% of AS, 20% of A Level consisting of a 1 hour written examination worth 60 marks made up of compulsory short answer questions.

COMP 3 Problem Solving, Programming, Operating Systems, Databases and Networking

This component represents 30% of the A Level and comprises a 2 hour 30 minutes written examination which is worth 100 marks. The exam is made up of compulsory short and extended answer questions.

COMP 4 The Computing Practical Project

This module is worth 20% of A Level Coursework, which is internally assessed, and moderated by AQA being marked out of 75 marks. This takes the form of a report written by the candidate documenting a programmed solution to a real problem associated with a user whose realistic needs should be taken into account when specifying, designing and implementing the solution.

Entry requirements

Students will need a Grade B in Maths and a Grade B in Computing if taken.
