Philosophy of Religion A Level at St Martin in the Fields High School for Girls
Religious Studies gives you the opportunity to study some of the fundamental questions which people have always asked about life: why are we here? How should we behave? What happens to us when we die?
This course involves you learning about the Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics.
For the AS examination, you will study the following units:
- G571: AS Philosophy of Religion Ancient Greek influences on philosophy of religion; Judaeo-Christian influences on philosophy of religion; Traditional arguments for the existence of God; Challenges to religious belief.
- G572: AS Religious Ethics Ethical Theories; Applied ethics topics
For the A2 examination, you will study the following units:
- G581: A2 Philosophy of Religion Religious language; Experience and religion; Nature of God; Life and death; Miracle.
- G582: A2 Religious Ethics Meta-ethics; Free will and determinism; Conscience; Virtue ethics; Applied ethics topics.
5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics. It would be helpful if you have studied Religious Studies or Religious Education at GCSE, but this is not essential and you will not be at a disadvantage if you have not studied this subject before. This course is available to people of any religious belief, or none; you do not have to be religious to succeed in Religious Studies.
