Child Care BTEC Level 3 at Wednesfield High Specialist Engineering Academy

Course description

This course is particularly appropriate for those with an interest in progressing in a career which involves working with children. It is a respected route for those who wish to move into employment in the children’s sector and are moving into higher education to work in the industry from nursery assistant, early year’s coordinator, children’s social worker to primary teacher.

It is a two year course where you will complete a number of internally assessed coursework modules and an externally assessed exam unit.

Course content

Year 12

Unit 1: Child Development Students will be studying the principals and theories of growth and development from birth to 8 years.

Unit 2: Play and Learning Students will discover that there are many types of play and different ways that it can be organised.

Unit 4: Health and Safety in Early Years settings Students will look at the principals of preventing the spread of infections and how to create, safe, secure environments both indoors and outdoors at settings.

Year 13

Unit 8: Safeguarding in Early Years Students will learn about the role of early year’s professionals in safeguarding and how to protect children.

Unit 9: Observation, assessment and planning Students will develop a good understanding of the importance of observational methods and how to present records of observations.

Unit 3: Meeting children’s physical development, physical care and health needs Students will learn to support and understand the physical needs of children in relation to health and development.

BTEC Merit in Child Care; GCSE C in English

Year 12

Unit 2: Play and Learning - Internally through coursework

Year 13

Unit 8: Safeguarding in Early Years - Internally through coursework
