A Level English Literature at Norwood School

Course description

A-level English Literature is a challenging and rewarding course and the only Arts subject seen as ‘facilitating’ by the Russell Group universities. It encourages students to develop a love of reading and the intellectual confidence to deploy well-honed critical skills when confronted with any text.

We explore a range of texts from different periods and genres, linked thematically; the specification gives teachers the freedom to choose appropriate texts tailored to the interests and skills of the group, and allows more able students to develop their own interests independently.

The course is assessed through examination (60%) - closed-book for A2 - and coursework (40%), supporting students with strengths in different areas.
