Dance at Wollaston School
Dance is predominantly a practical subject and therefore requires appropriate kit. Dance wear for lessons: Tracksuit bottoms or joggers in light very stretchy fabric – black or dark shades. Tight fitting white or black plain t-shirt / top – spaghetti straps are not allowed. Appropriate underwear i.e. sports bra / jock strap. Bare feet at all times. Dance wear for assessment: Plain black, tight fitting top and bottoms. Joggers are allowed as long as they are not too baggy. Theory lessons: Each student is expected to maintain a dance file. This is a A4 folder with 5 dividers inside. It is suggested that each student provides a blank audio cassette and video tape. Coursework Requirements 80% of the final examination is coursework. 30% - composition 10% - written programme note 20% - performance in a group 20% - performance of the set study 20% - written examination Therefore it is paramount that all coursework is completed to the students’ best ability and on time. The most crucial time is working on their composition assessment (30% of the total grade). It is important that the students have parental support enabling them to stay after school to rehearse as homework development is practical and studio space is needed to complete work.
