Drama & Theatre Studies (AS Level only) at Tyne Metropolitan College

Course description

This course is designed for students who enjoy reading and watching plays, and taking part in drama: as a performer, director or designer.

Drama and Theatre Studies helps you to analyse the ways in which different performance and production elements are brought together to create theatre.

The course offers a wide choice of set plays for study and the opportunity to write about live productions as well as developing your skills in practical drama.

Course content

AS - Unit 1: Practical exploration of two contrasting scripts from the perspective of a performer, director and designer. You will also experience and review live theatre performance.

Unit 2: Focus on scripts in performance. You can choose a design or performance option, working individually and with others to interpret and perform existing scripts.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A* to C.

Assessment

AS – Unit 1: 40% of AS mark.
Internally assessed practical work and supporting exploration notes.

Unit 2: 60% of AS mark.
Externally assessed by visiting examiner.
