Mathematics (Further) at Plume College

Course description

Further Mathematics is highly recommended for students who have a flair for Mathematics. It is a distinct advantage for students wishing to pursue careers in mathematics, accountancy, engineering, business and any science related subject.

AS Further Mathematics
A further three modules are undertaken for Further AS Mathematics and modules we offer are Further Pure 1 (compulsory unit), Mechanics 1 and Numerical Methods (coursework component 20%). Further Pure 1 introduces matrices, complex numbers and proof by induction; Mechanics 1 applies Mathematics to physical problems and examines topics such as the motion of objects and how they respond to the action of forces; Numerical Methods focuses on error analysis, the solution of equations and numerical integration and differentiation.

A2 Further MathematicsFor those students with a passion and aptitude for Mathematics, six additional modules will be undertaken. Three as outlined above for Further AS together with Further Pure 2 (compulsory unit) and two other units to be chosen from Mechanics 2, Mechanics 3, Statistics 2 and Decision 2. The choice will be dependent on the interests and strengths of the students within the cohort.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade A in Mathematics.The delivery of these units may involve On Line Delivery.
