The aim of this course is to provide you with a secure understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with
children or young people in school environments.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress on to higher qualifications such as the High Level Teaching Assistant or a related degree. Employment roles include Teaching Assistant and other similar roles within education.
During the course of the programme, you will study the following: Child and Young Person Development; Safeguarding the Wellbeing of Children and Young People; Communication and Professional Relationships With Children and Young People; Schools as Organisations; Supporting Learning Activities; Positive Behaviour in Children and Young People; Professional Relationships With Children and Young People; Assessments for Learning; Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings; Children and Young People’s Health and Safety.
Optional units include: Planning and Delivering Learning Activities Under the Direction of the Teacher; Supporting Literacy Development; Supporting Numeracy Development and Team Working.
This programme is intended for those over the age of 19 but those under this age at the start of the programme who are progressing from CACHE Level 2 Childcare with a supporting reference and have also achieved English Language at GCSE Grade C or above will be considered.
Those wishing to progress to teacher training must have Mathematics, English and Science at GCSE grade C or above.
It is essential for all candidates to have an enhanced DBS check before they can go into any Health and Social Care setting. You must be aware that if you have received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may prohibit you from enrolling on a Health and Social Care programme and gaining employment in a care or childcare setting. The procedure will be fully explained at interview and forms given to you for completion prior to the start of the programme.
