Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

This is a practical, work-related course delivering the skills and knowledge to enable you to perform a specialist scientific role in industry, commerce and science-related employment. It is an assignment-based course covering three key areas (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) with emphasis on the work of scientists and technicians.

Course content

The core units are: principles and applications of science, practical scientific procedures and techniques, science investigation skills, and an investigative project. There are a further 6 specialist units which are selected from a bank of applied science units in the main scientific fields. This enables you to study particular areas of science in greater depth and to focus on key applications.

Entry requirements

GCSE TARIFF

A minimum of 5 A*-C/ 9-4 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English and science

Assessment

Assessment will be through assignments, coursework, projects and external exams.
