French A Level at Norton College

Course description

The content of the course is based on contemporary issues, such as family issues, gay marriage, dangers of new technologies and the influence of TV on society.

Entry requirements

GCSE or equivalent: 5 A*-C.
English and Maths-C or above.
Specific - B in subject area.


There are 2 units of assessment in both AS level and A2 in French. Units 1 & 3 are combined Listening, Reading and Writing examinations. Units 2 & 4 are Speaking
Tests of 35 minutes, including preparation time. The Speaking Tests have two parts-a discussion of a language stimulus card and a conversation.

Future opportunities

A2 in languages can lead to a wide variety of degrees and careers. Many university courses in different curriculum areas offer the opportunity to spend part of the course in another country. Previous students have gone on to study Sport with French, Spanish and French joint honours.
