Sports Leadership - Representative Sport in the 6th Form at Slough and Eton Church of England Business and Enterprise College
We encourage sport in the 6th Form at Slough and Eton. Students have choice of a number of teams over the activities we offer; Football, Cricket, Basketball, Netball and Karting. These activities can be used by students if they choose to work towards a qualification in sport through the Sports Leadership structure. Our senior football team compete in the Berkshire Colleges and Schools Football League and also compete in the National Cup competition. In the summer we also have a senior cricket team who also compete in national and local competitions.
There's a leadership course for everyone.
We have a Sports Leadership structure in place to accommodate the growing interest in the skills and qualifications which can be gained from such courses of study. During Year 12 students can complete the Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA) at Level 2 by attending practical and theory sessions as well as organising sports clubs and extra-curricular competitions. With our School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCo, Miss Cronin) they also work with primary school pupils to earn their award by completing 10 hours of volunteering in the local and wider community.
Those pupils who complete the Level 2 award can continue to develop their skills by completing the Higher Sports Leadership Award (HSLA) at Level 3 in year 2. This is accredited with UCAS and the HSLA gives students a further 30 UCAS points, thus helping students achieve access to higher level courses. The HSLA is more challenging, but ultimately more rewarding, and requires 30 hours of volunteering as a minimum.
There are no entry requirements beyond the desire to gain a qualification which will be valued by universities and employers and may be a passport to future success. It is a two year course and so any student planning to stay for one year would not gain benefit from this course, but will not be barred from entry to CSLA.
