Sociology at Trinity Academy

Course description

Below you will find some information regarding the AS/ A2 Sociology course. Please note that there are some entry requirements for this course.

Course content

This fascinating A-Level looks at a range of areas including:
 
At AS:
 Families and households—the different sociological expectations of families
 Health and research—including inequalities in health, including mental health and how society obtains information.
 
At A2:
 Beliefs in society—such as the civil rights movement and the Klu Klux Klan and signs and symbols
 Crime and deviance—including prison reform, capital punishment and how crime can actually sometimes have a positive effect on society.

Entry requirements

To access this course you will need five A* - C grades including English and Maths at GCSE.

Assessment

Assessment is all via examination.

Further information

You will cover a wide range of topics over the two year period as outlined above. There will be a relatively high level of essay writing, and through the course you will develop your debating skills. It is therefore important to have good writing skills, although this is something you will be supported to develop.
 
Through the topics covered you will also gain an insight into how societies are formed and run.
