Course description

This is the 2nd year of A Level Maths.

Course content

Course Content: A2 Level Year two: Methods for Advanced Mathematics, continues the development of algebraic and calculus ideas. (C3) Methods for Advanced Mathematics, introduces ideas of proof, functions, and extends the use of calculus and trigonometry. Numerical solutions of equations course work will be completed within this module. Here you will learn how to solve polynomials of a power of x cubed and higher which have non-integer solutions, this will be written up as a report comparing the validity and accuracy of the methods (C4) Applications of Advanced Mathematics: develops topics started in C1, C2 and C3, and extends the use of calculus. Vector geometry, parametric equations and differential equations will be covered along with further techniques in algebra, trigonometry and integration. Decision Mathematics 1 (D1) - introduces algorithms in a variety of contexts to solve real world problems, progressing to critical path analysis, linear programming and simulation.

Entry requirements

You should have completed AS Maths with a minimum D grade.


There will be 3 exams, coursework & a comprehension paper. C3, C4 & D1 exams which are all 1.5 hour exams. Core 3 includes course work & Core 4 has a 1 hour comprehension exam.

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

You could go onto study maths, chemistry, engineering or physics at degree level.
