Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Saffron Walden County High School

Course description

A-Level Drama and Theatre offers a highly practical and challenging course of
study, which fully prepares students for Higher Education. The specification is
designed to promote an excellent balance between practical theatre making and
the theoretical understanding of drama and theatre. In both AS and A-Level
students can be assessed on either acting or design.

Course content

Year 13
Component 1: Theatre Workshop
Students create, develop and perform a piece of theatre based on an extract from a given text.
Component 2: Text in Action
Students create, develop and perform two pieces of theatre based on a given stimulus and
produce an evaluation of their work.
Component 3: Text in Performance
Sections A and B:
Two exam questions, based on two texts, pre- and post-1956.
Section C: A series of exam questions based on a specified extract of text.

Entry requirements

GCSE 5 in Drama or English


Year 13
Component 1:Non exam; 20% of qualification
Component 2:Non exam; 40% of qualification
Component 3: 2 hour 30 minutes written exam; 40% of qualification
