Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism at Tameside College

Course description

This is a full time programme studied over two years. On successful completion of the first year you will have the option to continue onto the second year of the course to achieve the full Extended Diploma. You will learn through a variety of methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, case studies, assessments, group work, practical work, projects, presentations and roleplays.

Course content

'The course will provide you with a thorough understanding of some of the key sectors in the Travel and Tourism industry. Its aim is to provide you with the practical skills and knowledge vital for a career within the industry.Over two years you will cover 16 units covering a range of vocational topics. The units are subject to change but normally include:Worldwide travel and tourism destinationsPromotions and sales in travel and tourismSpecial interest holidays and independent travelTravel and tourism destinations – EnglandTourism in the UKPackage holidaysOverseas representativesInvestigating the cruise industryDeveloping people in travel and tourismTravel and tourism destinations – ScotlandHoliday park hostsAncillary sales and servicesWork placement in travel and tourismPlanning and delivering guided toursConferences and eventsForeign exchangeThe course will give you the opportunity to discover how a range of sectors operate and what job roles and responsibilities are available within the industry. This will be achieved through work experience, practical assessments and by completing assignments which are based on realistic workplace situations. The course allows learners to reach their full potential by the development of interpersonal skills such as communication and teamwork. Learners will also develop their written work and presentation skills.

Entry requirements

'5 GCSEs Grade A*- C including Maths and English

Future opportunities

'On completion of this two year course you will have the option of progressing into a career in travel and tourism or continue onto a further specialist Travel and Tourism course in higher education.
