Information Technology at Cheam High School

Course description

ICT is everywhere, no one can escape it from Twitter to Facebook, RAM to Rom, our society is driven by an ever changing current of ICT and technology. BTEC ICT is an interactive applied course that covers a vast area of expertise including a wide range of disciplines from graphics creation and manipulation to website authoring, to being able to take apart and rebuild a computer independently. This is a subject you can really get your teeth into.

The specification is designed to enable you to have a hands on learning experience. Those who are keen to pursue a career in iCT would benefit greatly from this course.

Course content

Unit 1 – Communication and Employability Skills for IT
You will learn how to communicate and learn the skills needed to be a good employee.
Unit 2 – Computer Systems
You will learn about the inner workings of a computer and how the components affect performance.
Unit 30 – Digital Graphics
You will learn how to manipulate digital graphics using industry standard software.
Unit 28 – Website Production
You will create and manage your own website as well as learn how to create any additional multimedia needed.
Unit 31 – Computer Animation
You will learn about different types of animation and be able to create your own animations fit for purpose.

Entry requirements

For all BTEC courses students must have achieved five A*-C at GCSE OR Equivalent including a C or above in GCSE English or Maths.
