Sport & Active Leisure Level 1 at Calderdale College

Course description

This is a practical based course which uses the knowledge gained in the classroom and then applies it in the sports lab, gym, sports hall and on playing fields. This course is delivered over the first half of the academic year and then it merges with the BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Public Services course which is delivered over the second half of the academic year. (See BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Public Services for details). All together you will be studying for one year. Learning occurs through the completion of vocational assignments with a range of assessments to suit you.

Entry requirements

An introductory course suitable for beginners. School leavers should aim for at least 4 GCSEs at grades E- G which should include one of the following - Maths, English, Science, PE or IT. Applicants will be considered following a satisfactory interview with a tutor.

Assessment

Every learner is assessed using a variety of assessment methods such as practical sessions, presentations, podcasts, tests, assignments, posters, discussions and observations. All assessment methods are made vocational to different sport and leisure career areas

 

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived. Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

Achievement of a merit or higher grade will allow progression onto a Level 2 programme of study. You can seek a career in the sports industry such as a coach, health and fitness or leisure centre assistant.
