Course description

CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education is a one year programme which provides progression to the Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma on achievement of Maths and English GCSE grade C/4 .
The course carries a maximum of 55 to 140 (A* grade) UCAS points

Course content

You will study all aspects of children's care, play, learning and development:

You will need to undertake practical placements, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations. To pass this qualification you will need to pass all units, All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. All units are graded A*/9 - D/3. You must also complete an Effective Practice Study Task (externally set, externally marked)

- Providing safe environments for children
- Child health
- Play and learning
- Understanding children's additional needs
- Observation, assessment and planning
- Professional Practice Portfolio

Entry requirements

You will be required to have a full level 2 qualification, and have evidence for English and Maths.


There are 3 externally assessed components in this course. I exam and 2 set assignments. The remaining modules are assessed via assignments and course work. In addition you will need to pass your professional practice unit which comprises. 800 hours of assessed work practice with children in following ranges 0 -1 year, 2-4 years and 4-7 years in Nursery and Primary School.

Future opportunities

If you chose to have a break before continuing your studies you may choose to go to work as:
Children's Centre worker, Nursery practitioner, Private Nanny, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Children's Health Care assistant or as a Childminder.

*If you wish to progress to Initial Teacher Training or EYT you must have Mathematics, English and a science subject at GCSE Grade C/4 or above

      Via Bus or Train

      Solihull's main bus and train station is a 10 minute walk from the campus with the number 6, 30, 49, 69, 76, 166, 173.174, 175, 519 bus routes stopping outside the College campus.
