Information and Creative Technology Level 2 at Blackburn College

Course description

The Information and creative technology course is designed to teach the skills that employers need in aspects of business and design.  For students who want up to date skills in Multimedia Design, Animation and Developing Computer Games using digital applications that provides a wide range of career options, as well as a route into higher education.  A trip to an Animation Workshop and the IMAX Experience in Bradford is planned to help with your studies. 

Course content

You will study the following units to gain the Diploma at level 2

  • The Online World
  • Technology Systems
  • A Digital Portfolio
  • Website Development
  • Multimedia product development (Games Development)
  • Installing and Maintaining Hardware
  • Creating Digital Graphics
  • Spreadsheet Development

Learners are required to achieve a Functional Skills qualification in English and Maths.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade D and above are required, including English Language or Mathematics. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.


During the course learners will be set assignments and tests that will be graded and an overall grade for the qualification awarded.

Future opportunities

Learners gaining a Merit or Distinction and a recommendation from the Course Tutor can progress into Level 3 Diploma in IT or enter employment.  Learners that have also achieved Level 2 Functional Skills in both Maths and English have the opportunity to progress to the L3 Extended Diploma in IT.
