Pathways at New College Stamford

Course description

This course aims to give you skills and confidence to progress to further learning and/or employment. You will study units such as: literacy, numeracy, budgeting and managing money, IT, alcohol and drug awareness, young people, and law and order. You will also join vocational taster sessions linked to your pathway which can include construction, art, animal care, business and IT, catering, health and social care, hair and beauty, motor vehicle, sport, and public services.

Most students progress from Pathways to a mainstream course in their chosen vocational area.

Further information

Students are assessed on their progress throughout the year and build a portfolio of evidence. The work is validated by an external verifier from AIM Awards. Functional skills will involve tests at the appropriate level. Some vocational options will involve the purchase of equipment or uniform. Students choosing Health and Social Care will require a DBS check through the college. Students are encouraged to find their own work placement, of which their will be a health and safety assessment of the setting prior to commencement. If students struggle to find a work placement, our work placement coordinator will assist.
