Course description

Anyone who works or is seeking to work in an office environment can benefit from an Apprenticeship in Business Administration. Virtually no business is untouched with at least some level of administrative tasks and duties – so acquiring the skills you need to be a better, more efficient worker can only mean one thing – you will do your job better and thus you will be more valuable to your employer – leading to prospects for promotion, or better, more satisfying employment prospects.

Course content

A qualification in Business Administration will give you the skills and expertise to manage data and communications, whether it be by phone, face to face, via email and the internet and through social media. The skills you acquire will help you improve on the service you provide, enhance your productivity and help contribute to business development and therefore profits.

This new insight and added learning will not only improve your motivation and morale, but will make YOU the instrument of bringing best practice to your place of work, will open up significantly better prospects for promotion, give you deeper job-satisfaction, a recognition of your skills and expertise – in short make you a far more valuable employee.

This course will help you increase your awareness and understanding of how businesses operate. You will learn how to improve your personal performance in the business environment, understand and build upon your job role and responsibilities, improve your communication skills, build upon your IT skills, planning and organising meetings and the effective use of office resources and equipment.


You will be assessed using a combination of assignments, online tests, oral questioning, a portfolio of evidence and by practical demonstration and observation of your on-the-job activities. You will attend classes for a few hours one day a week, and spend a minimum of 30 hours per week at work.

Future opportunities

Further progression is possible through an Advanced Apprenticeship at Level 3.

The job roles this qualification opens you up to is vast and varied – you could work for banks, insurers, hospitals, surgeries, manufacturers, call centres, as a secretary or personal assistant or PA, as an office manager, to name but a few.
