Course description

Year 12 - Curriculum Information

AS Level Art students will follow the AQA Fine Art Syllabus.

Sept – Feb

Students will complete Unit 1 – the Coursework Portfolio, which will contribute to 50% of the final AS grade.

Students are expected to produce at least one extended project which demonstrates their ability to sustain an idea from a starting point to a conclusion. Drawing, research, experimentation and the development of ideas are key to the success of this unit. 

Feb – April

Students will complete Unit 2 – the Externally Set Assignment which will contribute to 50% of the final AS grade. 

This unit involves a 5 hour period of exam time, which focuses on the development of ideas and forms part of an extended project of study.

 

Year 13 - Curriculum Information

A Level Art students will continue to follow the AQA Fine Art Syllabus.

Sept – Feb

Students will complete Unit 3 – the Personal Investigation which will contribute to 25% of the final A Level grade.

Students are expected to complete a practical unit supported by a written study of between 1000-3000 words. The written study may be presented in a variety of forms such as a journal, a report on a gallery visit, a reflection on candidates’ own work or that of others.

The practical and written elements must be linked and the quality of writing is assessed. 

Feb – April

Students will complete Unit 4 – The Externally Set Assignment, which will contribute to 25% of the final A Level grade. 

This is a practical response to a theme set by the AQA exam board. This unit involves an extended exam period of 15 hours during which candidates must produce a finished piece of work supported by thorough and relevant prep work.
