Graphic Design A Level at Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Graphic Design is an exciting course that aims to equip students with the creative skills and practical techniques necessary to communicate ideas visually to a commercial brief.

Candidates will be given the opportunity to develop their skills with a range of media, from traditional techniques to the latest design software.

These skills will be used to produce a portfolio of work that could include such graphic outcomes as corporate identity and logo design, typography, advertising and packaging design, illustration, animation, web and publication design.

Entry requirements

Graphic Design is a demanding course and it is requirement that candidates have GCSE Art at grade C or above.

Candidates will be given the opportunity during induction week to demonstrate their ability to research ideas thoroughly, critically analyse the work of artists and designers, and develop ideas towards a graphic outcome.

You should have a good understanding of the basic elements of design and also some understanding of the place of art, craft and design in the world – its history and its purpose. Above all, you should have an interest in design and the determination and enthusiasm to develop that interest.
