Barbering Apprenticeship Diploma Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

If you're currently employed in the hairdressing industry as a barber but would like to gain a formal qualification and improve your cutting and styling skills, a Level 2 apprenticeship could be for you. Being a barber is a creative and rewarding career and a Level 2 apprenticeship will help you to build on the skills you already have. 

If you're new to the industry, this apprenticeship will give you an excellent grounding in the basics - you'll need to find an employer to take you on and we can support you in finding one, just get in touch. 

Taking on the challenge of this Apprenticeship will prepare you for reaching the next stage in your career and will give you an excellent base from which to take your skills to the next level.

Apprenticeships can start at any time of year, there's no need to wait until September, all you need to start is to be in employment. 

Course content

Our Level 2 Apprenticeship in Barbering will cover a range of mandatory units including health and safety in the workplace, general salon and reception skills and will deliver maths, English and ICT functional skills to minimum Level 1. Participants will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities and personal learning skills. 

Your practical units will include:
 • Cutting 
• Setting 
• Blow-drying 
• Colouring 
• Perming 

As well as: 
 • Personal learning and thinking skills 
• Health and Safety 
• Reception skills

Assessment

Your practical and theory work will be continually assessed by your workplace tutor and an internal verifier will visit you to monitor your progress. You'll produce a portfolio of evidence to show your progress.

    • The original High Pavement Grammar School was established in 1788 and it wasn't until 1975 that it turned from grammar school into a sixth form centre. In 1999 the centre merged with New College Nottingham and since then has occupied a prime position on the edge of Nottingham Trent University's City campus, giving our A Level students a real insight into University life, before they've even got there.
