Course description

BTEC First Diploma in Business has been designed to provide a broad education as a basis for future training, further and higher education or for moving into employment. This is achieved by ensuring that students develop the general skills, knowledge and understanding that underpin a range of occupations or professions and is part of the level 2 provisions in the National Framework of Qualifications. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Course Details/Outline: Qualification Structure The course is made up of six units. Some of them are assessed through assignments set and marked by your teachers. The 6 Unit BTEC First Diploma in Business consists of: * three compulsory units also called core units * three other units also called specialist units Compulsory units: The compulsory units have a broad focus providing the student with a general understanding of the sector as a whole. The three units in each award are compulsory. The compulsory units have a general focus providing the student with a general overview of the sector. They are: * Unit 1: Exploring Business Purposes * Unit 2: Developing Customer Relations * Unit 3: Investigating Financial Control Other units: The optional units introduce a more specialised vocational focus and the opportunity to broaden the skills and knowledge already gained from the compulsory units. The optional units can improve the opportunities available to students to progress to further education, employment or training. Hounslow Manor is offering the following optional courses: * Unit 4: Business Communications * Unit 5: People in organisations * Unit 8: Exploring business enterprise

Entry requirements

To achieve the BTEC First Diploma, you must achieve a minimum of a Pass in the six Units. This will be equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A* - C Grades are awarded at Pass, Merit and Distinction levels. Students are required to achieve a Merit or above if they wish to pursue the Level 3 award; namely, GCE Applied Business. Assessment: Assessment is focused on the unit and will be based on portfolio evidence for all six units. Your teachers will tell you what grade you have achieved as you complete each internally assessed unit. To ensure that your internally assessed work has been marked fairly, Edexcel checks samples of your teachers' marking. Following this process, grades for your internally assessed units could change
