Media Studies AS at Charles Darwin School

Course description

This one year course offers you the chance to progress onto A2 level is you complete the two units to AS standard. Unit G321 is coursework-based with the individual student assembling a foundation portfolio based around either a video or print production. Group work is possible but an individual evaluative log and a research folder also need to be produced. The second unit, titled G322,is externally examined with half the marks coming from analysing an unseen moving image extract from a TV drama and half the marks from a test of your understanding of the music industry.

Customary Level 3 A level entry requirements as determined by the school.

Future opportunities

Unit 1 is facilitated by your media teachers with you independently developing creative ideas based on research and analysis. You can either choose the opening of a new fiction film or the development of four pages for a new music magazine.

The second examined unit is taught by your classroom teacher with the TV drama section delivered through the development of a lot of specialist terms by analysing a diverse range of TV drama extracts and the music industry part asking of you a mixture of independent research and the comprehension of varying textual resources
