Animal Care C&G Level 2 Extended Certificate at Kingston Maurward College

Course description

This course offers a mix of practical instruction activities and theory sessions so if you are looking for solid basic knowledge and practical understanding of the care and needs of animals, either as pets, on the farm, in the wild or in the workplace, then this is the course for you.

This course will prepare you for employment in a variety of animal industries or enable you to progress further in education, or train as an Apprentice.

Course content

Units include:

  • Maintain the health and welfare of animals
  • Introduction to caring for farm livestock
  • Understand British wildlife species, habitat and rehabilitation
  • Level 1 Certificate in Work-Based Animal Care
  • Functional Skills (Maths and English)

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade D to G (including English Language, maths and science) and/or a Level 1/Foundation Level qualification and Level 1 Functional Skills. A genuine interest in animals and enthusiasm for working in animal care is essential. You must be prepared to work outside in all weathers with a wide range of animals.

Financial information

Courses leading to a qualification are FREE for British citizens, aged under 19 years on 31 August in the academic year you start your course.* However, there may be some additional costs for clothing/kit and trips depending on your course.  You can apply to the Bursary Fund for extra help towards the cost of transport, food, equipment or childcare.
