Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Hair and Make-Up - Level 3 Diploma at Harrow College
This course is designed for anyone who has achieved an NVQ level 2 Beauty Therapy or NVQ level 2 Hairdressing qualification, or equivalent. also this is suitable for students who have 5 GCSEs including Art and a keen interest in make up and hair.
During the course you will study a range of make up and hair services in the performing arts sector, including theatrical and special effects makeup for example prosthetics. You will work with other learners on different course levels in this curriculum area. You may also study Maths and English alongside this qualification.
Theory lessons are taught using various student centred methods and lectures. You will produce evidence using a range of different methods including assignments, oral questioning, practical assessments and written or online exams. Practicals will be demonstrated. You will be expected to work on other students and to work on clients when you are ready to be assessed in a realistic work environment. You will need to spend time on independent study when not at College.
Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Hairdressing, or equivalent qualification. 5 GCSEs including Art and a keen interest in make up and hair.
Applicants will complete a Profiler Assessment test in Literacy & Numeracy and a written and practical assessment. Applicants should have good communication skills and be able to work with others. They should also have a calm and professional approach as they will be working with clients and will be assessed on their skills and knowledge in make-up and hairdressing.
You will be assessed throughout the course on both practical and theoretical elements; you will also be assessed on assignments, tests, work packs and oral questions. You will build a portfolio of evidence that is internally and externally verified. You will also be required to pass written exams set by the awarding body.

Equipment or materials:
All equipment and uniforms are purchased through the College to ensure conformity with the Health and Safety Acts. A full make up kit and equipment will need to be purchased from the College. Order forms will be given at enrolment.
There will be an opportunity for you to attend additional short courses relevant to the hair and makeup industry which will support your knowledge and skills and to help improve your employability opportunities (please note there will be an additional charge for these courses). Also visits to exhibitions and relevant destinations approximately £20.
