Renewable Energy - Level 3 (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

This 2 year programme has been specifically designed to provide the necessary skills, practical experience and knowledge to enable progression to employment within the renewable energy industry.

It will cover a broad range of engineering activities and disciplines within the sector and forms part of our commitment to foundation learning.

Course content

This course is a 180 credit diploma where the units studied could include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Communications
  • Engineering Project
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Electrical Principles
  • Engineering Materials
  • Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems
  • Computer Aided Drafting
  • Welding Technologies
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Thermo Dynamics

You will also follow a programme of study to complement this including site visits to employers, guest speakers from industry, and the possibility of work placements.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs A-C or equivalent including Maths, English and a Science subject.

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above.

You will also be required to attend an interview and will undertake an entrance test and satisfactory completion of the school induction programme.

  • Assignment work also forms an important part of the course

Future opportunities

You may wish to progress onto a foundation degree, HNC or HND in a relevant subject or undertake a higher apprenticeship scheme within the sector.
