Drama A Level at Stationers Crown Woods Academy

Course description

YOU ARE A confident, experimental and inquisitive performer who is passionate about the subject and looking to develop your knowledge and understanding of the world of theatre and drama. You are able to work both as part of a team and individually. You have strong written and communication skills to meet all coursework and essay deadlines as well as excellent attendance and punctuality.

Course content

A practical, demanding and popular course which develops skills in evaluating and creating different styles of drama. You will work with theatre companies and create both scripted and self- devised productions that will be performed to examiners and audiences. Organised theatre visits are compulsory and texts must be purchased. Topics studied included: Unit 1: Practical assessments exploring Brecht and Stanislavski including 3000 word Exploration Notes and 1000 word Theatre Review under controlled conditions; Unit 2: Performing a Monologue and in an ensemble; Unit 3: Group devised performance and 3500 word written supporting evidence under controlled conditions; Unit 4: Exploring Doctor Fautas/ Lysistrata/ Woyzeck creating your own directors interpretation - assessed by exam.

Entry requirements

A minimum Grade B at Drama GCSE and a Grade C in English Language GCSE.
