NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Heating and Ventilation at City Training Services

Course description

Heating & Ventilating Engineers design, install and commission large and complex systems onto buildings such as office blocks, hospitals, schools, shopping centres and leisure complexes in order to provide a comfortable environment for those who use the buildings.  As an apprentice you could be working as a fitter, installing and repairing heating and ventilating systems or as a welder, using specialist skills to join pipework systems; or you could be installing the ductwork that either provides clean air to, or extracts air from parts of the building The Learner will be taught by qualified and experienced tutors at one of our approved local Colleges who will be supportive and encourage “hands on “learning as well as classroom theory. For the duration of the apprenticeship the Learner will receive full support from one of our dedicated training co-ordinators who will maintain regular contact and conduct a progress review every 10 weeks.

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Heating and Ventilating Industrial and Commercial Installation

Knowledge Units

Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering

Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within BSE

Understand industrial and commercial cold water system installation techniques

Understand industrial and commercial hot water system installation techniques

Understand industrial and commercial heating system installation techniques

Understand industrial and commercial chilled water system installation techniques

Understand how to apply scientific principles within MES

Competence Units

Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering

Apply safe working practices in building services engineering working environments

Install industrial and commercial H&V

Understand and carry out site preparation and pipework fabrication techniques

Entry requirements

GCSE grade C and above or equivalent in Maths & English would be an advantage.


This qualification is assessed through written & practical Assignments, and E-Volve on line examinations. On site observations.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Installing Industrial and Commercial H&V Pipework Systems, an apprentice will have the skills, knowledge and qualifications to:

Register on an appropriate Certification Scheme

Progress to learning and assessment programmes that lead to relevant Level 3

Qualifications and/or Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Installing and Commissioning Industrial and Commercial H&V Pipework Systems

Progress in their career with further training into job roles such as Technician, Designer

Estimator, Project Manager, Site/Workshop Supervisor/Manager, Chartered Engineer,

Sales Engineer or Commercial Manager
