Salon Services - Certificate at Queensbury School
This course is offered by ‘Go Live’. Go-live is a programme of learning that allows students to study for a vocational qualification. Two days each week you will be out of school with a training provider and the remaining days will be in school working on other projects. The programme is for students aged 16-19.
This course will give you an understanding of what it would be like to work in the hair and beauty therapy industry. Much of the course is centred around the practical side of the joband you will trainin our modern, fully equipped salon.
You will be provided with a uniform and your course will cover training in salon reception duties, personal presentation, customer service and the health and safety aspects of the job. You will also be taught hairdressing techniques including basic perming and colouring. In addition to this you will learn how to apply make up and provide manicures.
There are no formal entry qualifications. All students are required to attend an interview prior tobeing accepted onto the course and will need to carry out a basic skills assessment.What we are looking for are enthusiastic students who genuinely want to improve themselves. Academic ability although important to all courses is secondary to commitment and a willingness to work hard. This is a course that valuespractical skills and the ability to work with others in school and at an external training provider.There are no formal entry qualifications. The course runs over two days a week and all students are expected to complete a portfolio with support from the tutor, which will consist of a certain amount of written work. The course is assessed through regular observations and practical assessments and you will have a one-to-one review of your learning plans when you will begiven written feedback.
On successful completion of the course youwill be awarded a City and Guilds Level Onecertificate in Salon Services. Employers would see this qualification as a basic precursor to a modern apprenticeship and would welcome students with the level of knowledge this course provides. You may be able to progress onto NVQ Level 1 or 2 or work towards aVocationally-Related Qualification Level 2 in hairdressing or beauty therapy.
