Who is this qualification for?

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Make-up (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist specialising in make-up. This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) for make-up and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies, The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a beauty therapist specialising in make-up.

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16-19 age groups, and will develop the knowledge skills to prepare learners for employment as a beauty therapist specialising in make-up. Learners will have their beauty therapy make-up skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
 

Course content

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior beauty therapist specialising in make-up including: facial skincare, enhancement of eyebrows and eyelashes, make-up services, instructing on skincare and make-up application, effectiveness at work, health and safety and promoting additional products and services to clients.

Learners will further develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: ear piercing, spa operations, threading, skin camouflage, salon reception duties. This structure of this qualification provides learners with the flexibility to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior beauty therapist specialising in make-up.
 

Entry requirements

It is recommended that learners have achieved a level of education equivalent to four GCSE’s at grades A*-C prior to commencing the programme, however, learners should discuss their own circumstances with the College as entry is based on qualifications, skills and experience as well as a keen interest in a career in the Beauty Therapy industry.

Assessment

  • Assessment is through portfolio building and continual assessment of practical skills, written work and assignments.
  • Learner progress is monitored through regular tutorials and reviews.
  • Support is provided by our expert team throughout the course

Career opportunities as a junior beauty therapist, specialising in make-up ,exist in a variety of contexts, including:

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior beauty therapist specialising in make-up, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking Technical Level qualifications in beauty therapy at Level 3, including: 

- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (QCF)
- Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Techniques (QCF)
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Make-Up (QCF)
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF)
