Course description

If you enjoy taking part in sport and also have a real interest in the aspects surrounding and supporting performance then this course is for you. In this two- year course you will be given the opportunity to investigate the diversity of the sports industry from health and fitness and sports therapy to sports coaching and teaching.

You will be taught by specialist teachers in classrooms in the Sports Centre with access to the Sports Hall and Fitness Room.

Course content

This course is taught through a mixture of interactive lectures, individual and group activities, practical activities, discussions and presentations. You will be timetabled over five days with time to study independently and to take part in Enrichment based activities that run across BSix College.

Teachers will always be available to support your learning and understanding of the assignments set. You should be very aware that this is mostly a theory-based course and this should be considered before you make your final decision about whether this is the course for you. The course has no exams, which may be a positive aspect for you to consider, however the coursework demands can be quite intense so you’ll need to have good organisational skills. This is not a soft option – so make sure you’re fully committed!

Entry requirements

Level 3 Diplomas are for students with 4 A-C grades at GCSE.

Assessment

You will study a total of 19 units during the two years of the course and you will be assessed by coursework through presentations, reports, essays, exhibitions, discussions, group work and individual assessments. You will earn either a Pass, Merit or Distinction for each unit and the overall grade for the course will be assessed on the level of achievement in all units. If you perform exceptionally throughout the course you will be awarded a Distinction star grade.
